Hug in a Mug Community Café

Our Hug in a Mug Community Café is a welcoming safe space for everyone!

During the lockdown, many people felt isolated. Impacting both physical and mental wellbeing.

Our Hug in a Mug Community Cafe began after the lockdown as a free café at St Teresa’s Church, bringing the community together enjoying a free meal together.

Today, we promote connection, reduce loneliness and support wellbeing across generations, by creating warm, welcoming spaces where people can come together, connect, and feel supported. Our community cafe and support sessions help reduce loneliness and isolation by offering a friendly environment where conversations flow naturally and no one feels alone. We promote mental and emotional wellbeing through peer support, signposting, and inclusive activities, while also encouraging gentle movement and social engagement to support mobility and reduce frailty. In addition, we will provide education around nutrition, including practical guidance on how to cook healthy meals on a budget and reduce food waste, helping to improve both physical health and financial wellbeing. Through accessible, low-cost sessions, we aim to reach those most in need, increasing awareness of local support services and helping individuals feel more confident in planning for their future. At the heart of Hug in a Mug is a commitment to creating inclusive, community-led spaces where everyone feels welcome, valued, and part of something meaningful.
